Champion Chevrolet of Howell Promotes Child Safety, Offers Free Seat Checks

Howell, MI — Champion Automotive Group, Livingston County’s only new and pre-owned General Motors dealership group, is championing automobile safety for the county’s youngest passengers.

“In this season of giving, what could be more important than giving parents peace of mind about the safety of their children,” said Chip Elliott, General Manager of Champion Chevrolet of Howell.

Dealership representatives uncovered a need for more regular and ongoing, free car safety seat checks in Livingston County. Then they found a solution. They sent an employee to receive national certification.

Mott Buckle Up conducts a car seat check at the county EMS building off Tooley Road once a month, but it often relies on people coming in from outside the county to conduct the checks. A Champion representative recently completed the 4-day course. Now, she can not only help at those events, but she can meet with people in between the Mott seat checks beginning late-December.

“I am really excited to be able to offer this free service to our neighbors,” said Laurie Humphrey, Community Relations Manager for Champion Automotive Group. She is in a unique position to reach hundreds of parents every year who buy a vehicle at one of Champion’s three local dealerships.

“As a parent, there is nothing I value more than the health and safety of my children so it makes me feel good knowing I can help other parents safely situate their children in the family vehicle before they even roll off our lot,” she said.

National certification will also allow Champion to eventually offer free car seats to those in need.

“It’s things like this that make me love my job,” said Humphrey. “We are utterly committed to this community. We donated over $125,000 in sponsorships and prizes to Livingston County groups in 2015 and I can’t wait to see how many lives we can positively impact in 2016.”
